Solid Edge and electronics packaging
Solid Edge and electronics packaging
(OP)
How is Solid Edge when performing electronics packaging.
Items of specific interest are,
- Sheet metal design.
- Cable harness generation.
- Cable harness documentation.
Geometry is not exotic but cabling in 3D can be very messy.
Also, am considering a migration from MDT4. How is the import and subsequent modification of .DWG info?

RE: Solid Edge and electronics packaging
Solid Edge is the leader in sheet metal design, although the competition: SolidWorks and Alibre, are VERY close behind.
If you buy Express Route, wire routing is much easier. Without it, there is no 3D curve (sketch) functionality. As far as doing actual design, such as peg-boards and documentation, you are better off going with a third party supplier. Linius Technologies used to offer a package called Embassy that did everything you could think of for wire harness. They even had a special add-on for SolidWorks called EmbassyWorks. They were just recently acquired by Autodesk, though, so I have no idea where the product line will go other than in Inventor.
