PDF Question

(OP)
Here's another pdf question.  I have Omron program (.cxp) file that I would like to convert to pdf.

In the past, I have opened the program using the appropriate software and clicked on File -> Print -> Print to file.  I was then able to convert the file to pdf.

The only problem now is that I don't have the software for it anymore.  I've tried using notepad and word to open the cxp file and then clicking on the 'Print To File' check box in the printer window.  I was not able to convert it.

Is there a way to do this or do I need the software for it?

Thanks!

RE: PDF Question

You haven't explained what format a .cxp file is in.

If it's not text of anything recognizable by Office applications, then, yes, you need to get the original program or some sort of translator.

RE: PDF Question

One great program many people does not know and can write PDF's wonderfully and for free is OpenOffice.
OpenOffice is more known among the free software comunities (linux specialy) but it has a windows version too.
It can read and write almost 100% of the MSOFfice files and export to PDF.
Worth the try.

RE: PDF Question

You can tranform ANY file you can print in .pdf.

Install a "HP Color LaserJet PS" that print to "files".
Download and install Ghostscript and Ghostgum (a gui for Ghostscript).

Print the file using that virtual printer and it will create a .prn file.

Using Ghostgum convert it in a PDF and you are done!

:)

RE: PDF Question

Where do I get Ghostwriter, Gostscript, Ghostgum, Product Vision, WiseView ver 4.5 from? I've seen them talked about in different places here.. but haven't found them yet to download or buy. I too would like to be able to use the print file, but now I see why I can't.. Running windowsMe and XP.. With USB.. but if I was to connect my printer as a serial port connection or parralel.. I forget now, then I could do this again? Thanks, Lynda

RE: PDF Question

Have you done a websearch?  The Ghostscript download site is the very first hit.

RE: PDF Question

Yes, I did do a search and finally found the programs, but most of them look a little beyond me. But, I did it.. I remembered seeing somewhere in here about just renaming the prn file as a txt file. I had thought to myself.. well that'll never work.. but I'll be darned! it did!.. Thank you all so much!.. Now... what about a list for some extra modem strings for us people that can't afford any more than dial up. <smile> I have 2- 56K modems.. but neither would get beyond 33 and sometimes only 24!.. I finally found 2 strings to put in the extra settings and it took it up to 115. Thank goodness.. every little bit helps. Take care and thanks again!.. lynda

RE: PDF Question

What exactly are you trying to do with the print file?

RE: PDF Question

I was just trying to get my system file as text, to email it to  Gateway to try and resolve a problem with the Promise Ultra 133 Tx2 controller card that they sold me. It's been weeks now and WindowsME still doesn't want to use it. Crashes the system if I try to make it. Has the yellow exclamation mark in the control panel. I've contacted everyone and so far, Western digital had me use their software (I had called them also, cause I figured that's what's connected to the controller card) and they seemed to think that an error shown was 99% of the time a default in the hard drive.. I told gateway and they had me go through their tests and there were not any errors. I've emailed Promise and they say to call them tomorrow for tech support.. So we'll see how that works out also. But like I said.. meanwhile, I just wanted gateways tech support to have a look and see if they could tell anything via that.. like if one of the IRQ's or something.. I know.. your probably laughing at me, but I'm determined to resolve this.. Thanks lynda

RE: PDF Question

1.  Any system files should be mailed, as is, to your tech support.  They have utilities to read the files.  Your conversion to something else may make it harder for them to digest the data.

2.  www.Tek-Tips.com has a forum specifically for video problems and more likely to get you some additional help.
