Adding draft to surfaces - error - V5

Adding draft to surfaces - error - V5

Adding draft to surfaces - error - V5

(OP)
Hello.

I am using V5R10.  (This is a different problem than my previous draft problem post.)

I am trying to rebuild the history of a V4 model in V5 using paste special.  One of the drafts failed so I deleted it.  I am trying to add draft back in the same area of the history tree.  I would like to remove material for die pull.  I am still getting an error and don't know how to get around it.

The error says, "Part2: Draft operator:  The draft operator cannot decide whether to add or remove matter from the initial part.  Decrease the anle value or change the pulling direction."  Even though I need the part to look exactly the same in V5 as it did in V4, I have tried reducing the draft angle.  That did not work.  I can't change the pulling direction because it is die draw.  What else can I do?

Thank you.

Sounds like your neutral plane is in the middle of your part causing the draft to add material on one side and remove material on the other.

Try moving the neutral plane to the larger end of the die.

Thanks, jackk.

My neutral plane for this draft is actually at the bottom of the set of surfaces that I am trying to draft.  I want the walls to draft inward from the bottom surface.  I am able to draft the walls out, but not in.  Any other ideas are welcome.

Thanks again.

Sheryl
