File name/description in Windows Explorer
File name/description in Windows Explorer
(OP)
Hi there,
Is there any way to add more desciption to a Pro/E file that will show up in Windows Explorer?
Currently we save files under their part numbers. This is fine for people who work with the parts all the time, but for the occasional viewer, we would like a more descriptive title to appear in Windows Explorer. There are options to show attributes, comments, and some other options in Explorer, and I am wondering if its possible to populate these fields from within Pro/E.
The other option is to simply save the file as PART#_DESCRIPTION.prt.i but I thought I would ask if there is any other way first.
Thanks in advance,
Matt

RE: File name/description in Windows Explorer
Ever consider INTRALINK???... Then not only do you have you Parameters shown (as many as you'd like)... but you can search for those parameters rather then just looking throughout for a name.prt (or whatever)...
You really should get a demo on the power of INTRALINK... especially if you already own some seats!!!!
Even working alone, I use INTRALINK! (course - It's my specialty... Teach it, install it, configure it... ect)...
RE: File name/description in Windows Explorer
INTRALINK is not the only Data Management available, there are many others, some of which I believe are better, and some probably worse. Scout around PDM suppliers.
Hope this helps.

and it's damn easy to use... and manage... (customizing is another story though!)...
