PDM Works - What to Check in & What not to?

PDM Works - What to Check in & What not to?

PDM Works - What to Check in & What not to?

(OP)
I am currently checking in my first project into PDMWorks and was wondering how everyone handles misc job files.  I have the assembly and all of its children checked in but what about misc job files like transmittals and final ship ZIP files?  Do people check these into the vault even though they will not be used on future jobs?  If they are not checked in are they just stored on another drive even though you will then have a job split into two different locations.

I would appreicate the input,
Lori

RE: PDM Works - What to Check in & What not to?

I have nothing much to say except that we are facing the same issues with our new implementation of a 3rd party PDM system.

We have multiple document types ("environments" in our company lexicon).  "Development" includes imported customer data, design work, layouts, etc.  "Released" includes only our parts and drawings, released for production, with all links to "Development" severed.  There is a pointer that indicates the "Development" origin of "Released" parts.

If the ladies don't find you handsome, they should at least find you handy.

RE: PDM Works - What to Check in & What not to?

I check in everything related to SW files. This way there is always history (and back up) linked together.

I like having the history also, so I think we will be checking everything in also.  I think it will be helpful especialy when a customer gives us updated versions of the ref job we are supposed to use.  This way we will have a history of what was given and when.

Thanks,
Lori
