.dwg Drawing Format
.dwg Drawing Format
(OP)
We are currently toying with the idea of changing CAD systems. One issue that will affect our decision is that .dwg (AutoCAD) is currently the defacto standard for CAD drawings, the overwhelming majority of our customers require drawings in this format.
AutoDesk have moved away from AutoCAD to Inventor whose 2d drawings are saved in a different format. In order to save the drawings as .dwg we need to save them to a seperate location in that format, we cannot maintain the link between 3d and 2d as .dwg.
I presume that you can save drawings from SolidWorks/SolidEdge in .dwg format, how is this done?

RE: .dwg Drawing Format
I would recommend against switching to Inventor for .dwg functionality, it is worse on export with more cleanup work required than when exported from Solidworks, I spent 4 years on SW and now have the unfortunate task of dealing with Inventor. Oh how I wish I had SW back...it's easier, more intuitive...and after a month I am less comfortable on IV than I was after a week in SW.

It will not be linked, however, so you must save each time you revise the original part.

You may still have to perform some "clean-up" as the fonts & linetypes don't always translate perfectly.
