is it possible to make transformer to suit

RE: Importing US made CNC Lathe to Aust

A transformer is no problem. Any decent transformer mfg should be able to accommodate you. That however will only take care of the voltage issue. The frequency will remain the same. What will happen is that your motors may run at 5/6 speed since they were designed for 60hz and you have 50hz. On a CNC lathe however most, if not all, of the motors are being controlled by VF drives or servos, so it may not matter since they will just convert the AC power to DC and recreate an output to suit the motors. There could also be issues with the CNC processor powwer supply, but most are now rated for 50/60Hz operation. Ask the lathe mfg., they will know.

Suggestion: Everything being powered by ac should be carefully evaluated for the frequency difference, voltage difference, etc.
E.g. motors and solenoids may have to be rewired for 50Hz power supply.
