Reverse Eng Software Geomagic vs Catia

Reverse Eng Software Geomagic vs Catia

(OP)
We are a Tool & Die Design and Manufacturing Company using Catia v5 and there are 2 modules which Catia offer," Digitized Shape Editor2" and "Catia Quick Surface Reconstruction 2". I also have been introduced to "Raindrop Geomagic". I'm wondering if anyone has used any one of these products and what the pros & cons are.

RE: Reverse Eng Software Geomagic vs Catia

We are currently using Raindrop Geomagic, and although I am not the primary user, we are having good luck with using it for taking digitized detailed point clouds from a laser scanner/Faro arm combination.  The place where we have had some difficulty is in applying the resulting surface data as "useful" tools in creating more detailed solid and surface models.

We ALSO just purchased CATIAv5, and have the RE option with the modules above.  We have not used it yet, but I anticipate trying it out in the coming months.  I think, assuming that we will continue to then use CATIAv5 thru the rest of the process, that the integration SHOULD be superior.  But, that remains to be seen.
