Problem with ellipses in Microstation

Problem with ellipses in Microstation

Problem with ellipses in Microstation

(OP)
We compared 2:1 ellipses created in Microstation and in Autocad , and found that the Microstation ellipses are SHALLOWER. After calculations , we determined they are not true 2:1 ellipses.
Has anyone encountered this and would have a suggestion as to how to draw a true ellipse in Microstation?

Thanks
SR Chauvin

RE: Problem with ellipses in Microstation

The problem may be in your working units. Microstation working units > resolution drives the display. If your working units are large, e.g. mapping then the level of accuracy decreases. If you working units are small, then the accuracy increases. Unlike Autocad where you can set a chord tolerance, Microstation works with a Resolution and a combination of the master units and sub-units and get your Working Area smaller. I would try to adjust the numbers and try again. Be careful, do this in a new file, so you do not ruin what you have already. Once you have a solution, this can be saved as a seed file. If you are using reference files, make sure that all files have the same working units.

I suspected as much, but I wasnt sure if my design file resolution (8000 pos. units per sub-unit) was responsible. This low resolution is a client requirement ;  I will work around this.....Thanks for the tip !!!!!
