Subtracting And Getting multiple solids error

Subtracting And Getting multiple solids error

Subtracting And Getting multiple solids error

(OP)
Hey guys,
im fairly new to unigraphics and i am trying to learn the software.. when i try and subtract a tool from the target body, it gives me an error message which says "tool cannot split target into multiple solids" , i know from v18 that this was possible...why was this feature removed from NX or if it wasnt removed, how do i enable it? And more importantly how do i split the target into multiple solids?

Thanks for your time and hopefully an answer to my problem

RE: Subtracting And Getting multiple solids error

If you perform the subtract with any combination of the 'retain' options turned on, the operation will not work. You can split the solid if you turn off those options, however you will end up with unparameterized solids (probably not what you want, but that's the way its been since at least v15 that I know of). If you want to keep your features you can use trim sheets - extract a copy of your model first  then cut the original with one sheet and cut the copy with the other sheet. This will keep the features alive but you will still end up with 2 solids in your file.

RE: Subtracting And Getting multiple solids error

Yhe problem is not with UG, it is Parasolid that won't allow you to split one solid into multiple solids. It has been a 'limitation' since UG first embedded parasoid in V7.

Cowski I tried what you suggested taking the retain tool and retain options off and its still not working im still getting a multiple solids error

RE: Subtracting And Getting multiple solids error

Again, I would suggest not splitting into multiple solids as you will get unparameterized solids. Try using the extract body command and trimming away on the copies, I believe you can achieve what you want and retain your parameters. You'll have to consult the help files for some of the options (at timestamp option, for instance) to get the results you want.

RE: Subtracting And Getting multiple solids error

sometimes this happens when you have a very tiny sliver of the subtracted half left after the operation...check that your tool completely covers the region that you are removing
