IP rating for Power Connectors
IP rating for Power Connectors
(OP)
I was investigating IP rating and was curious if anyone had any information as to how electrical connectors are tested, mated or unmated. Most pin and socket style connectors have the female side well protected against ingress but the male pin side is typically wide open. Would each half have a different rating and another for when mated.
Any help appreciated.

RE: IP rating for Power Connectors
If a receptacle has a lid, it can also have an IP rating. The plugs are generally not rated since they should not carry power until mated with a receptacle. There are situations where an IP rating is desired for a plug (eg. mounted on a motor that is in a dirty application and is frequently unplugged). The plug would then be tested and IP rated with some sort of cap.
