BURNISHING TOOLS

BURNISHING TOOLS

BURNISHING TOOLS

(OP)
I'm looking for info on burnishing tools. I am considering using them for holes from 1.25 up to 4.5". I cant find data on appropriate holes dia. to start with, let alone speeds and feeds. No luck in finding the manufacturers web site, and the machinist handbook doesn't reference them. any ideas?.......thanx

RE: BURNISHING TOOLS

Try a search for Cogsdill Tools, they were the burnishers that the last company I worked for used, I think there is another one, but I can't remember the name....might be Sugino.

RE: BURNISHING TOOLS

Ditto MechEng13, you can't go wrong with Cogsdill.  Just make sure you communicate all of the details when you order the rolls.

RE: BURNISHING TOOLS

We have roller burnishing a 4” diameter bore in C1026 DOM tubing with good success. Try Modern Machine Shop magazine for other manufactures also. The radius of the tool used for boring the hole prior to burnishing and the surface finish of the bore will have a major effect on the finish after burnishing.
We were using the surface for sealing, and found a .015” tool tip radius at .0075” feed worked best

RE: BURNISHING TOOLS

Go to www.cogsdill.com   They have an online catalog.
Standard burnishing tools range from .187" - 4", larger sizes can be built as a special.
Tools are available in through hole and bottoming style.
Tools  above .500" have an adjustment range of .040".
Tools below 2.162" are avialable in 2",4",6" and 8" work lengths, above this diameter work length is unlimited.
If a larger work length is needed a special tool can be quoted.

RE: BURNISHING TOOLS

If you are looking to finish holes to tight tolerances and fine finishes check out the following website.
They make tools that finish holes that can not go oversize.
