timed pneumatic controls

timed pneumatic controls

(OP)
I have a spray gun that is operated with a foot pedal and I want to turn it off in 3 seconds after start to control the mills of paint that is put onto a part. I am using a momentary foot pedal to start the process and right now an operator is counting to 3 and then releasing the foot pedal. I would like to keep this strictly a pneumatic only system. I know I can use electrical control but I don’t want to run power to the machine because of its location. Does anyone know what valve and control to buy and where to buy it?

RE: timed pneumatic controls

If you have clean air, use a flow control valve or orifice and a cavity/ tank. The thing is you can control the time it takes for a valve to turn on or off by controlling the flow into a cavity where the pressure will build up to the required level and pilot the valve. It's loke having a capicitor build up before operating a transistor. (I think)

RE: timed pneumatic controls

Use a 2-position 5-way detent valve to supply the air to the paint gun from port 4. Use the foot valve (plumbed from the 2 port of the above mention valve) to pilot the 2 pos. detent to enable the gun. Use a pneumatic timer (from any of the major manufacturers of pneumatic logic valves i.e. parker, festo, smc, mead) with the control signal port plumbed in parallel to the paint gun to reset the 2 position 5 way detent valve.
