Drawing Regeneration Woes

Drawing Regeneration Woes

Drawing Regeneration Woes

(OP)
I'm working on a slow machine (the only one available) trying to do some work on a somewhat large assembly drawing.

Every time I go in and change the tolerance display on a dimension, when I zoom out - I have to wait for the drawing to regenerate which is taking about 3-5 minutes each time.

Since there are a lot of dimensions that I need to clean up - this is going to be a lengthy process. Much more than it needs to be.

Is there an option that I can put into my config.pro file that will keep this auto regeneration from happening.  The only option I seem to have found deals with auto regen after changing a layer.

RE: Drawing Regeneration Woes

If you want to regenerate faster your assembly, you can make all the features in all your parts "read only" and the drawing will regenerate much faster. When you're done with your assembly drawing you can use the option "clean" to clean the read-only features.

RE: Drawing Regeneration Woes

There is an option for this, but it too can cause problems if used by persons that are used to regeneration of the drawing after changes.  I do not have my config.pro file handy or I would tell you the keyword.
If you are using Pro/E 2000i or i2 go to a blank line in your config.pro file (you have to use pro/table for this to work) and press the "F4" key.  Go through the list looking for keywords starting with "drawing...", "regen...", or "view..."  One of them should make sense to you.
If you are using Pro/E 2001 or later use the find function and enter "regen".  If nothing appears then select the "search descriptions" box to expand the search.

If you find the keyword that works remember that when you modify dimensions the dimension value will change, but the drafted entities will not.  Each time you want the drafted entities to update you will have to Regenerate the View or Sheet.  Obviously, regenerating the sheet will take longer.

Preferred method--> The other option is to erase all views that you are not currently working on (only on the current sheet).  When prompted to erase section or detail arrows answer "No."
Views can be erased and once they are erased they do not require regeneration.  This is not the same as deleting a view.  Erasing a view is temporary!

Erase a view - Views --> Erase View

Restoring an erased view is somewhere in the "Views" menu... I don't know the menu path off hand (sorry).

Hope this helps?

RE: Drawing Regeneration Woes

I was able to find my config.pro file, here it is...

keyword:  auto_regen_views
value:  no

Just remember that any changes will not been seen until you regenerate view or sheets.
