New Designer Seeking Reference Book

New Designer Seeking Reference Book

New Designer Seeking Reference Book

(OP)
I am a new fire protection designer looking for a good all around reference book.  I am currently thinking about the Fire Protection Engineering Handbook from NFPA or the Design/Layout of Fire Sprinkler Systems, Second Edition from Mark Bromann.  Does anyone have a suggestion?

RE: New Designer Seeking Reference Book

Are you doing fire sprinklers only?  If so, the main book will be NFPA 13.  If you are new to the field and want to gain a rapid in-depth knowledge of fire sprinkler layout, the American Fire Sprinkler Association offers a 2 week design class.  You can view their web site at www.sprinklernet.org.  When I have sent individuals who have been working in sprinklers for about 3-6 months down there to the class, they have returned with an equivalent knowledge base of a person that has been in the field for 2-3 years.  It is a great benefit to the new designer.

RE: New Designer Seeking Reference Book

The bible is the NFPA automatic sprinkler systems handbook.  A little pricy but well worth it.

If you are making a career choice, enroll in the certification process of NICET.  See http://www.nicet.org/
