Marine Growth on Surface-Piercing Props.
Marine Growth on Surface-Piercing Props.
(OP)
I am trying to find an anti-fouling product that will work on surface-piercing props (Bronze). Everything we have used so far washes off quickly.
Does anyone have experience with a product called 'Propspeed'? (I've seen the website but didn't see any surface-piercing props there.) Or can recommend something else.
Presently we have divers clean every two weeks or we will lose up to 5 knots of boatspeed.
Thanks in advance for any help.

RE: Marine Growth on Surface-Piercing Props.
pauljohn,
Please be so good to elaborate a bit more on the condition you describe in your query.
Is it a motor-boat or -yacht? What diameter of the prop (or screw)?
Probably it is a boat, since a loss of not less than 5 knots is mentioned. ("boatspeed" in your text)
For larger ships, and also bronze (or a mixture) the growth is greatly reduced by using proper placement of (zinc)anodes.
However, you mention that divers have to do that job!
Do not forget that while sailing, the feature of air bubbles implosion will occur around the rudder and propeller.
Proper polishing is often done for larger vessels when dry-docking.
