Fault Current through Armour?

Fault Current through Armour?

Fault Current through Armour?

(OP)
I have been asked to calculate the fault current that flows through the armour of a power cable.  Can someone please tell me how this is differ from the traditional line-earth fault calculations?

RE: Fault Current through Armour?

I think there is no difference at all. As long as the cable with armor is correctly modeled, the line-to-earth fault current resulting from the traditional calculations will be the same fault current flowing through the cable armor.

God bless!

RE: Fault Current through Armour?

It would be the same unless there is a parallel path to the armor, such as a ground wire or cable shield, in which case some of the fault current may flow in those.

RE: Fault Current through Armour?

If the armor is grounded at both ends, there will be parallel paths, making the modelling difficult.
