Dangling drawing dimensions
Dangling drawing dimensions
(OP)
Hi,
When I detail my models on a drawing I use driven dimensions (manually inserted similar to AutoCAD). When the model changes and the drawing is updated, dimensions are left dangling on the drawing. Ordinate dimensions can be re-attached to model features by dragging the dimension to the new feature but linear dimensions don't seem to allow this. I end up deleting all dangling linear dimensions and re-creating them (losing any tolerances and GD&T in the process). Is there a way to "drag and drop" dangling linear dimensions onto new features?
SW 2003 SP 5.0
Thanks

The same cannot be done with dangling linear dimensions. The only thing I can do is delete them. If the new feature needs to have similar tolerances and GD&T as the old one, it makes sense to me to "re-cycle" the dangling dimensions and have the value of the dimension reflect the new feature it's attached to.

RE: Dangling drawing dimensions
Dimensions "remember" the name of the entity to which they are attached. As long as you are only modifying that entity, the dimension will remain attached. If you delete the entity (feature) and replace it with a new one, then the dimension won't find its entity.
RE: Dangling drawing dimensions
Keep putting in those Enhancement requests for this. I have been asking for that... for about 5 years now. If you don't put in the requests then you won't see this ever get done.
