Commercial Optical Targeting System for XY Table

Commercial Optical Targeting System for XY Table

Commercial Optical Targeting System for XY Table

(OP)
I'm looking for some direction on finding an off the shelf targeting system for an XY system.  The XY system motion is approx. 2' x 2', and it needs to locate various positions within that envelope.  Instead of paying for a high priced precise XY system, we want to utlize a simple XY system and a positioning feedback method to zero in on the target location(s) +/- .020".  We would like to know of any sources for such a targeting system (optical, magnetic, acoustic, etc).  It needs to be fairly small, ie. 3"x3"x3" or less.  Any advise on vendors, contacts, or personal experience with designing such a targeting system would be greatly appreciated.  I've started searching the web, but most everything is military based.  We are looking for less precision, less cost, and smaller application.

RE: Commercial Optical Targeting System for XY Table

what do you want to move, how fast and with how much accuracy?
