Once exported from AutoCAD how to keep relationships
Once exported from AutoCAD how to keep relationships
(OP)
Hi Everybody and happy halloween, (Booo !!)
I have a not to scary question about what should I do to keep scaling properties on my sketch once imported from AutoCAD.
I imported an AutoCAD drawing and then tried to apply a dimension to one side of the sketch. The problem is that only that element shrunk but not the rest of the elements that make the whole sketch part.
As you can tell I'm trying to learn my way through solidworks as a beginner.
Happy halloween and thanks,
Vanleurth

RE: Once exported from AutoCAD how to keep relationships
If you refer that, after applying a dimension to an imported element, this is the only that is updated, that's correct! You need to fully dimension your sketch in order to obtain the desired geometry.
If, after import you need to adjust the scale before dimensioning, go to TOOLS/SKETCH TOOLS/MODIFY/FACTOR.

RE: Once exported from AutoCAD how to keep relationships
solution1:
if u r very well in autocad, use this method.
goto open the parent autocad file , convert this drawing as single entity.
how to convert single entity?
1)u can use region command or boundary( check the command name)-pick a point inside the drawing. now outer boundary is converted into single entity. (this method is best)
2) otherwise use pedit command select join option
and save as this drawing as seperate file.
now import this into solidworks.
solution2:
CONTRAIN ALL CONCEPT.
Sets constraints on the sketch entities of an unconstrained imported .DXF or .DWG drawing.
To solve relations in an imported drawing:
Import a sketch from a .DXF or .DWG drawing.
Click Tools, Relations, Constrain All.
The command tries to solve all the apparent relations in the sketch and reports the number of constraints that were added to the sketch.

RE: Once exported from AutoCAD how to keep relationships
Is there any way to convert a line to a solidworks centerline ?
V.
RE: Once exported from AutoCAD how to keep relationships
centerline name is common for all softwares.
but u can convert any line or circle or arc as construction line (construction line is nothing just like center line.) it is not useful for feature profile, but it is useful for reference dimension for the feature profile creation.
if u want to change any profile as centerline (i.e ,construction line)
just select the line or arc or circle- in the feature manager tree - goto option - select for construction .now this selected profile is now changed into center line.
u can use same concept in drawing also.
