Cost of running an electric space heater?

Cost of running an electric space heater?

Cost of running an electric space heater?

(OP)
How can I calculate the cost per hour of running a 1500 watt electric heater if the heater runs on 120 volt power, and pulls 12.5 amps.

Thanks for your help and any explanations you may provide.

RE: Cost of running an electric space heater?

The figures are right in front of you:  the unit draws 1500 watts (120v*12.5A) which is the same as 1.5 kW...  assuming this is a residential type use, multiply 1.5 times your ¢/kwh charged by the utility -- assuming 10¢/kwh, it'll cost you 15¢ to run it an hour...

this assumes that you normally consume enough power to overcome the base charge, etc....

if you have demand charges, etc. then the cost may or may not be higher... (demand charges are usually for commercial and industrial customers)

RE: Cost of running an electric space heater?

Look up your recent electrical bills to find average cost per kwh.

total kwh= (watts/1000)*hrs run

Total cost will be (cost/kwh)*kwh used.

In your case if use your heater for one hour, total kwh consumed will be 1.5kW*1 hr = 1.5 kwh.

For your info, Watts=V*I for single phase (which is your case). 1500W=120V * 12.5 Amps.

Hope this helps.
