Hi All

I need help in the calculation of dielectric loss (W/cm3) when subjected to a 50Hz AC supply. ie 4kV/mm. Assume a tan delta value.

Thanks in advance

RE: Hi All I need help in the calcul

kantor,

tan delta is a measurement of imperfection of a dielectric medium (ratio of watt losses-imperfection- to var reading-perfect dielectric represented by a capacitor)

just like calculating VAR, W and VA from power triangle, use tangent of angle delta. Assume VAR producing capacitor is parallel with W producing resistor. (in order to find these 3 values, you need to have another reading with tan delta value, VAR value maybe).

divide the calculated total W loss by the volume of the dielectric (assuming uniformity)

hope this helps

saltan

Are you familier with any formula for the loss calculation.

Thanks

RE: Hi All I need help in the calcul

Kantor,
To calculate di-electric loss one has to use formula
dielectric loss in watts = 2*3.142*f*c*v*v*tan delta

Thanks All and JB thanks to you.
