Catia V5 kinematics

Catia V5 kinematics

(OP)
Hi everybody!
Anybody know if it's possible in Catia V5 to make a kinematic simulation in 2D? It will be much more helpful (for me), to perform a 2D analyse with kinematic simulation, than to have a space kinematic simulation. Thanks in advance for your answers!

And another question: can I make 2D tolerance analysis (or maybe even in a drawing, not necessary in a .product file)?

Thanks again for any answer!

RE: Catia V5 kinematics

As far as I know you will need to make this in 3D.
The Kinematic package is really easy to use in 3D all you need is simple shapes to represent your parts.
I use the kinematics to validate my designs interactively.
It's a big improvement in speed over V4 because I don't have to redefine the joint everytime I make a change to the geometry.

RE: Catia V5 kinematics

Puck is right. The V5 DMU Kinematics only handles 3D kinematic systems. But you can still use it to make 2D systems.

You can also do some simple 2D kinematics within the sketcher.

I can draw very easy for example an involute (to define a gear profile) using Catia v4 kinematics: a line rolling on a fixed circle, with trace activated for an extremity point of the line. But how can I draw the same curve with catia v5? (not having the possibility to make 2D kinematic).
Thanks in advance for all answers!

RE: Catia V5 kinematics

Hello.

You can simulate mechanisms in CATIA V5 2D, by drawing elements, and then constraining them.
Use fix, vertical and horizontal constraints, and most important, use dimensions with "drive dimension" enabled.
Unfortunately it seems you can't constrain "blocks" this way.

Not sure if you can solve your specific problem, but it's worth a try.

Best regards
