translate solid bodies to surfaces

translate solid bodies to surfaces

translate solid bodies to surfaces

(OP)
Hello ,

Is it possible to translate solid bodies to surfaces
in SW2003 ?
Or with a add in ?
To calculate a model with cosmosworks2003 it goes much faster with a surface model.

RE: translate solid bodies to surfaces

Not totally sure this will work, but you could do this:
1) Insert your part into a new assembly file
2) Choose SaveAs
2.1) For "SaveAs Type", choose Part (*.prt, *.sldprt)
2.2) At the bottom of the SaveAs dialog box, select "Exterior Faces"

RE: translate solid bodies to surfaces

if u want to change completly solid part to surface model, use Mr KEN's idea.
if u want to create some face of the solid body to surface in that part file itself,
go to insert- surface-knit
and select the face to convert to surface(there should be some contunity among kniting surfaces)
now goto feature tree - select any solid feature right click - select hide solid body.
now u can see the surface.

RE: translate solid bodies to surfaces

If it's a constant thickness part, try "Insert --> Surface --> Mid Surface".  If that feature doesn't quite work, use "Insert --> Surface --> Offset" to offset one set of faces.

If you wish to isolate the surface body to a new file, select he surface body, and then save as a parasolid.  You will be queried whether to export the entire file, or just the selected bodies.  Then you can reimport your surface to a new file where it can stand alone.
