ATEX Type 'n' and Type 'e' Protection
ATEX Type 'n' and Type 'e' Protection
(OP)
Our company recently had our system certified for type 'n' (EN 50021).
In terms of our hardware how much more is involved is the type 'e' protection (EN 50019).
From what I understand of the ATEX directive this would also require us to go from a relatively simple self-declaration to having a notified body also inspect our quality system (EN 13980) correct?
Thanks

RE: ATEX Type 'n' and Type 'e' Protection
The issue of whether or not you need a Notified Body to approve your system depends on the Category or hazard level that applies.
Cat 1 systems need Notified Bodies or Approval
Cat 2 and 3 systems can be self certified.
The categories are similar to the old zone system.
Cat 1 = Zone 0
Cat 2 = Zone 1
Cat 3 = Zone 2
