No news here. Honda have been selling tiny wheel motors for bikes, and electric brakes, for 8 years.

Nowhere on that site does it mention efficiency figures.

On TV they mentioned high efficiency, but gave no numbers in the part that I saw.  They were pushing the fact of high torque at very slow speed without the loss of efficiency or a gear train.  This was due in part to their DSP controller.  Probably not as good as steam engine but they maybe getting close.
I’ll try to get a response from them or the Discovery Channel.

Wavecrest's wheel motor looks like it has the potential to broaden the electric/hybrid vehicle market, they have wheel motors that do not need a plantery gear to make 500-700 ft/lbs while fitting inside a 16" wheel. Many applications outside of the auto biz. I am thinking of one in particular...for more info read Jan 04 AI.
