"VOLUME" in a family table

"VOLUME" in a family table

"VOLUME" in a family table

(OP)
I have a family table with 4 instances in it. The engineer wants the volume added to the FT and be parametric so if the part changes size the volume will update. Is there a way to do this? If so how? Running 2001. TIA for all your help.

Yes,

You can create an ANALYSIS Feature for the part.

A
1) Chose Model Analysis -> Model Mass Props as the Type this includes VOLUME.
2) Hit Compute and Close the Analysis window. Then choose yes to create a Result Parameter for volume.
3) Hit the check button to finish the Feature or you can add more params.

B
1) In Family Table dialog Choose Add item -> Parameter -> Feature.

2) Choose the Feature with SelByMenu hit doneSel OK to finish adding the parameter

You just have to make sure that for models with additional cuts or protrusions that the Analysis feature is the last on the tree.

RE: "VOLUME" in a family table

Michael,
Thanks for the reply. I got to step A2 above. When I hit the compute button to create the analysis everything is ok. But when I close the analysis window there is nothing else to pick, (Then choose yes to create a Result Parameter for volume.). Where do I create a result parameter for volume? Is there a config setting required? Thanks and have a great weekend.

RE: "VOLUME" in a family table

After you compute the analysis and close that window the Analysis feature Dialog which has a windows explorer type tree similar to the Feature Dialog which lists each element available should have a Result Params item in the tree.
You can also goto Parameters Feature params and check for the volume parameter.

If you followed my steps and for some reason your parameter wasn't made follow the description below.

When this is selected the lower portion of the dialog allows you to name the analysis parameter. If you see the feature in the model tree try getting information on the feature to see if a Parameter was created. If not redefine the feature and choose to create a volume parameter in the dialog window as I described. NOTE you do not have to reselect Model info just scroll down and choose to create the Parameter for Volume.

The parameter can also be used in a note using &PARAM:fid_ANALYSIS_FEAT_NAME as with other parameters in case you want to display a PART Note.

Hope you figure it out

Michael
