Would anyone have a schematic for a network port detector?  Id like to be able to plug test box into wall to see if port is live?  Any thoughts appreciated.

Kind regards,
Todd

RE: RJ45 port tester

Hi-

Most simple hubs have data a connection leds on their ports.
Maybe going to a local computer store and buying a small
4 port hub will help?

   Cheers,

RE: RJ45 port tester

There should be a small amount of power across pins 1 & 2 and 3 & 6.  I forget which pair gets energized by the hub, but I think that it is 1 & 2.  A simple diode across the pins should do the trick.

Of course this wouldn't mean that the outlet worked, only that the pair from the hub is good.

Still, better than nothing.
