Sand hood for a stack

Sand hood for a stack

Sand hood for a stack

(OP)
Hi everyone,

I am looking for some inspiration or someone to tell me don't be so daft.

I have been asked to design a sand hood to keep sand out of a vent stack (an air compressor by-pass vent) in a middle eastern country that has sand storms.

The stack is some 2 metres in diameter and all I seem to come up with is a design that reverses the flow downwards before shooting it out sideways into a screen that deflects it up/down - hope this makes sense.

Has anyone done this sort of thing before ?

My customer seems to think that it is possible to design an effective hood, I am not so sure, as I always thought sand gets everywhere no matter how hard you try to keep it out !

Any help or references would be appreciated.
