Bunker C viscosity
Bunker C viscosity
(OP)
Hi everybody!
I'm brand new on this site and i need your help on this. I have a bunker C tank who contain 20 000 gallons of bunker oil (Type 6C3). I need to know if the viscosity of the bunker change in the time. My oil have about 23 years and i want to pump it. Do you have an idea about this?
I wait for your response!
Thanks all!

RE: Bunker C viscosity
to pump it regardless of age you'll need to heat it. minimum temperature is 150-200 F.
with time the volatiles come off and the heavies remain so it can even be more viscous.
it is similar to No. 6 fuel oil. take a gravity sample that will tell you a lot.

The problem are that H2S can be in high level of PPM. If i heat this, i think that i will be obligated to furnish air adduction mask to the workers who will enter in the tank when the bunker level will be approx. 3-4 inches (to mix with oil no.2). That the big point in my project. In fact, if nobody entering in the tank, no problem will occure, but in my case, i have to send workers into a high risk area i think. I have no risk to take with that. So, i will continue to talk to the compagny who want to pump my bunker to try to have the safer way to do the job.
I tank you all for your help!
