Servo Position Feedback: Resolvers vs. Hall Effect Sensors
Servo Position Feedback: Resolvers vs. Hall Effect Sensors
(OP)
Can anyone comment on the differences and merits of each?
Do they provide information on position/speed of motor? So position/speed control of the load would assume zero slippage?

RE: Servo Position Feedback: Resolvers vs. Hall Effect Sensors
Resolvers - rotating electrical mini macnines - provided Resolver-to-Digital Converter deliver position in digital format.
You say nothing about optical position encoders - absolute (expensive) and incremental.
Smart Position Initialization article overview at

gives an idea about AC (sine) brushless with incremental encoder without Hall sensors start-up issues.
