I am after information on embrittlement in aluminium structures (marine and aircraft) due to thermal cycling , ie night / day .....winter /summer conditions.
(both in welded and mechanicaly fastened structures)

and also embrittlement patterns due to age

I realise that this is a very wide sphere of influence with a large range of variables , but as a repairer in the industry , i have long had a theory that fatigue and failure in aluminium is strongly related and influenced by thermal effect , not just at high/low extremes of temperature , but also distinctly with regard to the cycling effect

Anyone have personal observations to share ?

Perform web/literature searches on phrases like

thermomechanical fatigue
temperature-fatigue interaction
(+ aluminium)

Which should give a lot of information. I think a lot of research has been done in this area.
