software for steel joints design

I have worked with concrete frames, but I'm now starting with steel frames, I've found that analysis and design of the structural members is straightforward, but the joints design in seismic zones is difficult and tediosus. Are there some software or sheets to deal with these joints? Where can I find that?

RE: software for steel joints design

I would suggest contacting the Steel Joist Institute (SJI), sorry you'll have to search for their website.

RE: software for steel joints design

Try looking at FEMA 350.  They go through many of the joint design calculations that you are expected to follow.

Thanks to ajh1 and jheidt2543, I Know about FEMA 350 and SJI, I'll search in their sites to look some software to improve the work with steel joints. I’d like to save time dealing with these steel joints.

RE: software for steel joints design

joserivera,

I just reread your question and my response, somehow I misread your post as "joist design" not joint design.  The bifocals must not have been engaged. Someday you'll get old too.

Here is a better place to look for a software package for STEEL JOINT (connnection) DESIGN:  www.ramint.com

RAM International has a number of packages for structual analysis and design, one of which is for connections.

Sorry for MY confusion.

Don't worry, I´m getting older too. When I visited the Joist Institute I thought that it was the wrong place. Today I've read the brouchures of Ram International and Masterseries in the web pages you recommended and I think that is the kind of sofware I'm looking for. I'll study these possibilities, I've requested quotations. Thank you.

RE: software for steel joints design

Try contacting Omnitech Associates at www.desconplus.com.

They offer two connection design programs, Descon Brace for the design of brace framed connections and DesconWin for the design of Moment connections.  The programs are available in both ASD and LFRD versions.
