embrittlement due to thermal cycling (Aluminium)

embrittlement due to thermal cycling (Aluminium)

(OP)
I am after information on embrittlement in aluminium structures (marine and aircraft) due to thermal cycling , ie night / day .....winter /summer conditions.
(both in welded and mechanicaly fastened structures)

and also embrittlement patterns due to age

I realise that this is a very wide sphere of influence with a large range of variables , but as a repairer in the industry , i have long had a theory that fatigue and failure in aluminium is strongly related and influenced by thermal effect , not just at high/low extremes of temperature , but also distinctly with regard to the cycling effect

Can anyone point me in the right direction for any studies or papers on the subject , or have personal observations to share ?

thankyou.
Mark
