Design of Water Retaining Structures to BS8007

Design of Water Retaining Structures to BS8007

(OP)
I am currently designing a water retaining structure in Dubai to BS8007
Appendix A of the code gives values of T1 for concreting in the UK but gives no guidance on the value of T2 (temperature fall because of seasonal variations)
As the climate in Dubai is much hotter than the UK what values of T1 and T2 should I assume for the design?

Check publication "Guide to the construction of reinforced concrete in the Arabian Peninsular," published in 2002, joint publication of 'The Concrete Society' & 'CIRIA.'  This was originally published as a CIRIA Special Publication 31 in 1984.

I design water retaining structures in Australia (arid conditions) to AS 3735 (Code & commentary).  This Australian Standard has a rational approach & is based on first establishing the environment (what liquid is to be retained & the environmental conditions).  The result is a min. concrete strength, cover, min. reinforcement dia., min. steel percentage & min. steel stress (deemed to satisfy requirements to ensure that the cracks are controlled).  A check of overseas publications indicated many formulae for crack size, but very little correlation between formulae.

Happy hunting!

I forgot to mention, Dubai is included in the CIRIA publication.
