how to rotate entire part model

how to rotate entire part model

how to rotate entire part model

(OP)
i already finished one entire part model , but my client needs that model's particular face should be front side view.
for i will have to rotate the entire model 90 degrees  or any degrees.
is there any special tool to rotate entire model (like autocad 3d rotate).but solidworks is parametric tool. is it possible?
i can rotate single feature using rotate tool.
but  for total part model rotation, any special procedure?
using rotation tool,it is posible to select all features. at the same time it is not selecting planes.
if i used mirror part , that new file is refering parent file.

if i use edit sketch plane it is changing the paticular feature only.
if i use view orientation for showing required face as front side.
it is working. but if i click  "reset the view orientation" it is showing original model.

thanks,

RE: how to rotate entire part model

You can go Tools> Orientation (or hit the spacebar) to bring up your Orientation Toolbar.  You can double-click the names to change the view.  Once you get a view you want for the Front of the model, click the top-middle icon on the View Orientation Toolbar, called Update Standard Views.

Or, can leave the Views as they are, and just insert a Named View of your model into your Drawing.  Check out SW help.

RE: how to rotate entire part model

If you are not talking about View, but changing Plane, here is how.

1. Right click on your "Sketch" and select "Edit Sketch Plane"
2. Click on "Sketch Plane" to show "FeatureManager" and select a plane as a front. (You can click the title or bottom tab.)

This way, when you make a drawing, front view comes up properly and also, "Orientation" when you hit "Space Bar" follows and appears correctly too without renaming or creating new one.

RE: how to rotate entire part model

try "Edit Sketch"->Tools->Sketch Tools->Modify
hope this work for you

RE: how to rotate entire part model

at  final we got the solution, we selected mirror part based on the seperated face and we created surface parallel to the face which is exactly lieing on that surface.
then we used suface cut.
any comments?
thanks

RE: how to rotate entire part model

I think the solution offered by MadMango is the proper one.  I do this all the time because I design a lot of parts that are created completely in-context of a top level assy.  This causes all of these parts to have their front plane the same as the front plane of the part that was selected in the assy.  I simply click the face I want to be front, select the view normal from the orientation box and set this view as the new front.  You mentioned this method in your original post but said it is lost when you "reset view orientation".  Don't reset view orientation.

What you have now done with your current solution if I understand correctly is created another part model based on the original model. Essentially a derived part. Now you have two models, one for show and one to work on.  Seems redundant to me.

RE: how to rotate entire part model

dear shaggy,
i have done the part using mirror all concept.
here no need to worry about the derived parts.
it is not referring any file.
we can rotate any degree  using the mirror all concept . if u want rotate the component 90 degree, u'll have create 45 degree plane according to the intersection plane or face.
then use mirror all.
the object is just like twins which is joining the mating face or your new plane.
now u will have to create one linear surface in the new plane (this should be bigger than the entire part model)
now use suface cut . give dirrection to cut which is in original part direction.
now u can get miirored individual part.
it is not referring any file.
why i'm not using view orientation, if my client clicks the view orientation to reset , entire model 'll be going to original old model.

that's why i'm not using view orientation.

thanks
angd expecting comments...
