High Temperature Valve Grease

High Temperature Valve Grease

High Temperature Valve Grease

(OP)
Does anyone know of a grease that is suitable for use on metal seated ball vavles that carry a temperature rating of up to 800F.  I have already consulted many of the typical suppliers of industrial lubricants and really found no one that offers products that are suitable for continuous use at much above 550F.  A few had products than might handle a short term spike to 750F, but nothing for continuous use.  How do these suppliers of these extreme temperature metal seated valves lubricate the ball and seat?

RE: High Temperature Valve Grease

I know Sealweld has a lubricant they rate for 2000 F. We use a Desco product rated at 750 F for steam valves. Another manufacturer you might try is CS Clare (sp?).

"Aggieengineerrmb",
right now I have on my desk a 500 g pot of "NEVER-SEEZ", an anti-seize and lubricating compound from Varybond  [see http://www.varybond.de... unluckily it's in German only ]: I knew it was used in Grove ball valves and it is said to work from -180°C to +1100°C (= from -290°F to +2000°F).
Let me know if this helps...

RE: High Temperature Valve Grease

you best bet is to talk to the valve manuf.

are you actually using the valve at 800 F

RE: High Temperature Valve Grease

if you are talking about sealant grease then you have to learn that this grease is a non sense for a M/M seated ball valve. You have already M/M seating selected to face the HT application.Sealant grease, which requires dedicated injection ports, is generally associated to soft seated valves which at this HT are also a non sense.

RE: High Temperature Valve Grease

Have had good success using Nickel Never-seez in metal seated ball valves.  Made by Bostik.  Claimed temperature range is -297 to +2000F.  Even if they are overstating the limits, its well above what you need.  Can learn all you want about it by a quick internet search.

RE: High Temperature Valve Grease

I remember we use Molykote 1000 - moly based grease for threads . You can refer to their catalogs for more details.
