Dear all!  

I am worjing on a pressure surge problem at present in a rising main connected to three pumping stations.

I am attempting to calculate the distance from the pump (which is triped) to the seperation point of the liquid, for appromiate positioning of a valve.

I can calculate the pressure surge in the rising main, but am a present considering using the pump and system inertia to calculate the valve positioning.  

I have found in a paper that the trip speed of a pump is 0.05 - 0.005 seconds.  If this was squared, and times by the interia of the system then the valve positioning would be given?!  

Are the above assumptions correct?
