SW2003 BOM's in large assemblies
SW2003 BOM's in large assemblies
(OP)
Hi,
I'll attempt to explain this problem the best I can.....
I am dealing with a complex product consisting of a large number of sub-assemblies (total number of parts anything up to 15,000), for which an overall Bill of Materials or "cutting list" needs to be produced.
I am looking for a way to group individual parts from different sub-assemblies on the BOM by using an identifier or similar (eg, parts X and Y are different and from different sub-assemblies but are both "bolts", and need to appear consecutively on the BOM).
To illustrate it another way, the best I can achieve internally to SW2003 is:
Sub-ass. 1
X
Y
Z
Sub-ass. 2
X
Y
Z
whereas I am looking for:
Ass. 1
X
X
Y
Y
Z
Z
At the moment I am getting around the problem by exporting the data into an Excel sheet and applying filters that way, but I can't believe this is the only solution. I know that one can give a part a custom attribute to identify its "type", but as far as I know these cannot be used to filter/sort by?
This is driving me nuts, so any help would be very greatly appreciated.
Many thanks,
Max

RE: SW2003 BOM's in large assemblies
SW03 doesn't make cut-lists yet... in SW04 you can make cut-lists per sub-assembly.

They have some BOM tree utilities that may be of interest.
