don't know about gas engines, but there was an attempts to use membranes for o2 removal in diesel engines. you can find the data in the following paper: Poola, R.B., et al. "Membrane-Based Nitrogen-Enriched Air for NOx Rediction in Ligh-Duty Diesel Engines." SAE Paper 2000-01-0228
