Structural Steel Inspection

Can anyone reccomend a seminar or training class for structural steel inspection including bolt testing, visual weld inspection, etc.?

RE: Structural Steel Inspection

Try:

www.steelstructures.com

They have a home study course on high strength steel bolting. They also have handbooks on bolting and welding.
They are very reasonable in cost and should be enough to get one started.

RE: Structural Steel Inspection

Check the AISC web site.  They have a listing of there seminars.  I'm sure they could steer you in the right direction.

Where are you located, gbowen?

RE: Structural Steel Inspection

AWS offer courses and certification for visual inspection of structural welds. www.aws.org

RE: Structural Steel Inspection

Yes AWS can provide VT courses for welding, but can't provide technical training on high strength bolting, the administrative, moment frame, continuous and periodic inspection, NDT per the IBC/UBC requirements, etc. that is needed to perform SS&W inspection by a special or deputy inspector.

So I don't get another booty cal by the web-admin, you need to contact an organization that does provide these specific training courses including the plan reading. Before I got cut, there are many companies here in CA that do provide specific SS&W training which is what I understand gbowen's request for info.
