Preformed Waterstop (Bentonite vs adhesive joint sealant)

Is there any specific advantages to using a sodium-bentonite (expansive) waterstop instead of a preformed adhesive joint sealant waterstop? Specifically I am wondering about using Volclay Waterstop-RX vs. Synkoflex. This is a general use question, but let's use, for example, a water treatment plant with constant pressure on the construction joints and pipe sleeves.

RE: Preformed Waterstop (Bentonite vs adhesive joint sealant)

I would say that a physically stable and less dissolvable preformed damping solution should perform better longterm. But this presumes all is executed well, and may involve significant detail, caulking etc.

We use Synkoflex on existing (old) prepared concrete and PVC serrated on all new concrete at all treatment plant projects.  Haven't used bentonite materials for years.

I have used the Volclay Waterstop-RX in quite a few structures, none of which were WWTP.  I have not used the Synkoflex.  I liked the RX because it installed a lot quicker, thus less labor cost, than PVC waterstop.  We didn't have to use split bulkhead forms etc. which meant not only forming but stripping costs.

You might call Volclay and ask for test data when used in WWTP.
