Hi folks,

Firstly pls pardon my English.
I have a question hope you can help.

Our company have finished a contract in a CCR(UOP's Continuous Catalitic Reforming) Platforming unit restoration project (after fire accident on the plant). as part of the project, we replaced 2 pump, caled Debutanizer Recycle Pump.

a month after plant start up the inlet valve to the pump, and the mechanical seal of the pump was leak.
I found a white crystal deposit like a salt inside the mechanical seal after opened it.
I found all stainless steel part of the mechanical seal was eroded ( all surfaces became not smooth ).

Other pump also have a same problem. There is vertical LPG pump ( with catridge type seal) have a same problem. The carbon ring stuck ( can not slide and bounce )because the stailess steel part support it eroded and become not smooth.

Anybody has any idea what kind of crystal was that?

Thanks.
