Design Criteria for Plastic Socket Weld Valves

Design Criteria for Plastic Socket Weld Valves

Design Criteria for Plastic Socket Weld Valves

We manufacture thermoplastic back pressure valves.  We are making some design changes and need to confirm the depth requirements for the socket. Is there a specification or a standard to define the depth for a socket weld?

Thanks for your help.

RE: Design Criteria for Plastic Socket Weld Valves

ASTM calls out standards for socket depth, OD's, etc...You could probably find it on their website.  Our check one of the fitting manufacturer's, they may also have.  Nibco has a pretty thorough website at www.nibco.com.  Look under the Chemtrol product.

We do not currently have any ASTM books.  This one of our problems.  If you could tell me which ASTM gives the dimensions for the socket weld depth, we could then get a copy of that ASTM.

Thanks

RE: Design Criteria for Plastic Socket Weld Valves

ASTM D2466 (for schedule 40) and ASTM D2467 (for schedule 80)
