AutoCAD Alternative

(OP)
We're working on developing a new estimating software for our Precast Concrete Company.  The software is based in MS Access.  Special products will need to show 3D, Wireframe, Isometric views.  Currently we use an old old Quatro Pro--> AutoLisp --> R12 routine.  This can only be used on a single machine in the company.  We're looking to write the new process using a less expensive CAD software that can be loaded with Access to all estimators, salesmen, Cust. Service reps, etc.  The IT guys suggesed IntelliCAD PRO as the best option based on is VBA functionallity.  Is this the right path to go down, or is there another option?

RE: AutoCAD Alternative

AutoCAD has good VB functionality, but linking it to MS Access requires skilled programming knowledge.
Try www.fleming-group.com for people who seem to have some skills in this.

RE: AutoCAD Alternative

Have a look at TurboCad. Version 7.1 is a freeby, so you can evaluate it.
It has built in handling for all sorts of 'external' programs (MS suite)

RE: AutoCAD Alternative

I agree with tigerbob: IntelliCAD PRO is the way to go. Inexpensive commercial packages with user manuals are available from CADopia & BricksCAD (just released an upgrade). Or, you can join IntelliCAD consortium and use source code for free. Several companies already imbed in their own proprietary software packages.

RE: AutoCAD Alternative

Hi rwill19050 where can I download the TurboCAD 7.1 freeby? All I can find at the IMSI site is a verion 9 limited demo.
