To start a new file, call up your master and then file it with the new part name. It will retain all the defaults you set.

Please,Can you explain this?
Thanks in advance
RE: PROBLEMS WITH DRAFTING
You first create a drawing as you would like to have it (linethickness, arrowstyles, type of dimension, tolerances and so on...). Use the right mouse button on a any feature on the drawing (e.g. a dimenion) and select "Set as default" to make i default (next dimenion will look as you has described).
Then you save the drawing as "template_drawing" or something
Next time you make a drawing you start with selecting the "New from..." option and then give it a new name.
RE: PROBLEMS WITH DRAFTING
I believe the "set as default" option is gone in R11.
Instead, the XML- standard file have become very powerful,
and let you control everything you need.

RE: PROBLEMS WITH DRAFTING
I'm using R12 and as you've said, when I right-click on an object, I do see "Set as default" as one of the options listed. However, it always seems to be grayed out. Any idea what I might be doing wrong? If Bjod is correct and DS has gotten rid of the option, wouldn't they have removed it from the menu?

I mean the standard file. You DO need to define en ENVIRONMENT, and customize your XML files.
Have a look in the online doc or get an ADMIN V5R12 training.
There are plenty of good stuf you can define with an ENVIRONMENT.
