Mechanics of materials books

Hi all,

Could you recommend several good books for a refresher on mechanics of materials?

So far, I've found "Mechanics of Materials" by Hibbeler and another book by the same title by Johnston and Beer having obtained favorable reviews.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Alex

RE: Mechanics of materials books

Introduction to Mechanics of Solids, Popov, Prentice Hall.
I have this book and I find it very thorough.

RE: Mechanics of materials books

I must agree on Igor Popov's. I studies it over 23 years ago and I found it to be excellent one. Beer and Johnston also published a good txt as well.

Good luck

Hello all,

Thanks for the replies so far.  Regarding the Popov book, what's the latest edition/year?  Seems like it's a rather dated book.

Dunno the latest date; but the book is a real gem.  And changes in this subject area are few, if any.  In my view, it's a classic.

RE: Mechanics of materials books

I used a book published by John Wiley & Sons, NY titled, "Mechanics of Materials", by Higdon, Ohlsen, Stiles, Weese, and Riley.   Very good from my perspective.

RE: Mechanics of materials books

I would also suggest the book by Timoshenko and Gere.  I used it in my undergraduate work and found it to be thorough
