Types of dipsticks for underground fuel tanks

Types of dipsticks for underground fuel tanks

Types of dipsticks for underground fuel tanks

(OP)
I commonly get drivers and site staff complaining of the difficulty reading some dipsticks used to measure level of fuel in undeground fuel tanks.  These are normally of a basic design where the user is required to find the fuel level in the same way you would with an oil dipstick from an engine, but the level mark can be difficult to find, particularly at night in the wet. Different colours and finishes help.

I had heard there are alternatives which are more like a sample tube where a valve allows dip tube to fill but when lifted it seals and user can easily se level of fuel inside the dip tube. Is anyone familiar with this or alternative methods other than electronic devices? Are some dipstick finishes better than others?

Cheers

RE: Types of dipsticks for underground fuel tanks

no finish is best for viewing, plain wood has such a great colour change in liquid but unfortunately they do not last as long as their laquered or poly counterparts. in our production area these sticks have been phased out because we switched to above ground tanks to comply with environmental standards so now we get a read out on the side of the tank. but plain wood go with wood

RE: Types of dipsticks for underground fuel tanks

Why can't you use smaller foot valves screwed to dip pipes?
