WHAT IS THE HEAT GAIN FOR CHICKENS IN CHICKEN FARMS

I  am trying to design a air conditioning system for a chicken farm about 25000 chickens. But I am in trouble with heat gain for chickens and the ammonium effect about the dirt of chickens. Can anyone help me with this huge farm design.  Thanks.

It is a pretty handy book, especially if you are designing a farm. Most of the values in the tables are for smaller farms.

I don't really know where to get it. It was a textbook for a class when I was an Ag. Engineering Student at Cal Poly SLO.

Thanks ClydeMule for your answer. I am new to hvac applications and I am very happy with your answer. But when I found a 2000000 Btu/h heat gain for my broiler chicken farm I am a bit dissappointed. Is this farm coolable and what would be the economical perspective for this application. What solution do you reccommend to me

Sorry if I led you on, but other than giving those numbers, I am by no means a poultry HVAC expert. Like I mentioned, I got those numbers out of a book left over from when I graduatd a couple of years ago.

However, I do work in the HVAC industry ( for a chiller manufacturer). While in college, I worked in the poultry business. I actually lived at the new (new in 1997) poultry facility on campus at Cal Poly.

To be honest, 25,000 birds is not very big. In CA, a fully automated egg production facility ususaly has 1 to 3 million birds. At a central California Foster Farms facility (broilers,) I think they house 15,000 to 25,000 birds in one building, and have over a dozen of them.

Evaporative Cooling is a the only way I have seen cooling for pouldtry done. The cellulose panels are in one side of the building and large fans 24"-36" daimeter pull air across the barn.

I was at a plant today, with a 50 Ton cooling tower. It was roughly 10' in diamter, 8' tall, with a 1 HP fan. 2,000,000 BTU/HR is 166 tons, so in terms or large evaporative cooling, it is not that off the wall.
