Resources to assist in learning about RX Diagrams
Resources to assist in learning about RX Diagrams
(OP)
I have just started work with a company who sell/service protective relaying equipment and I'm looking for some good resources (pdf's, www's etc.) with regards to learning more about Distance Relaying. Please keep in mind that I'm 23 with no background in this field all. I have is a BSc Eng. Elec., so I am realising that basically I know a bit more than not much.
Any suggestions as to where I should look? Any other protective relaying resources you guys/girls think would be suitable for me to have a read of would also be cool.
Thanks in advance, Travis

for GE resources, including a book by:
C. Russell Mason "The Art and Science of Protective Relaying" John Wiley and Sons, 1956
RE: Resources to assist in learning about RX Diagrams
Don't know where you are in the world, but in the UK there is a very good book by T. Davies, called 'Protection Of Industrial Power Systems' published by Newnes (Butterworth-Heinemann) ISBN 0-7506-2662-3. Highly recommended.
Scotty.

We acknowledge receipt of your request about NPAG - Network Protection
Application Guide.
This guide now replaces the previous PRAG (Protective Relays Application
Guide). It has been completely rewritten to take into account the fact
that, in addition to the traditional role of protection & control,
secondary systems are now required to provide true added value to
organizations.
The NPAG book provides detailed analysis on the application of protection
systems. It includes a new chapter on the protection of a.c. electrified
railways.
All the other chapters have been completely revised to take into account
new developments, including improvements in numerical protection techniques
and the application problems of embedded generation.
New chapters covering the fields of power systems measurements, power
quality, substation and distribution automation have also been included to
reflect the importance of these fields for the modern Power System
Engineer.
This 500 pages, A4 size, hardback book is in English language and contains
numerous diagrams, curves and color illustrations.
We trust that you will find this book invaluable for your daily job and
assure you that any comments will be carefully noted ready for the next
edition.
Should you be interested in obtaining a copy, fax your company purchase
order or Visacard / Mastercard details to ALSTOM T&D Inc (Pennsylvania) on
610 997 5450. Please do not forget your name and delivery address.
The price is US$100 per copy.
For any questions regarding the NPAG, please call 610 997 5100 (EDT).

May want to review non-textbook R-X diagram application notes… Keep in mind that {free} online material maybe model/manufacturer specific.

I think there are many good references:
a) Visit www.selinc.com
they have some nice papers ranging from basic to advanced topics in relays
b) some other posts have already mentioned "ge" website, there are many interesting papers, two or three are very basic about the principles of distance relays (how relay "sees", dinamyc response of relays and so on) and there is a very good one about the reasson of using R-X plane.
c) J.Lewis Blackburn book Protective Relaying is a good book!
